About
My name is Mirella Deocadiz and I am currently a senior, comparative media studies independent major at Bryn Mawr College.
I am currently undertaking a Praxis III course at a preK-12, independent school for girls just outside of Philadelphia. Here, I have been working with faculty and students to integrate technology into their classroom experiences. My interest lies in the co-creation of education, and how digital tools allow for greater communication between all participants in the classroom.
This particular study will frame the exploration of the following questions: What are the competencies and skills required for digital literacy? How does the integration of digital tools within a classroom affect the way in which students engage with, access, and collaborate and co-create their knowledge? What counts as knowledge in this kind of collaborative educational context? How can certain tools be adapted to student needs within this space?
In order to answer these questions, I will enter into a classroom setting to complete an ethnographic study of sorts. My role will be to observe students and teachers within a school setting, speak to them, and interview students about their understanding of media literacy and digital citizenship.
On this blog, you’ll find weekly blog posts that will detail my observations and interpretations on the happenings in my field.
